Diamond Ranch Foods Joins National Cattleman's Beef Association
NEW YORK -- June 15, 2010 -- Diamond Ranch Foods, Ltd. (OTC BB: DRFO - News) (Berlin WKN# A0RNQK), a meat and poultry processing and foodservice distribution company, is pleased to report that it has become a member of the National Cattleman’s Beef Association (NCBA).
On behalf of the many NCBA
members, including producers, foodservice operators, packers, processors, retailers,
ranchers and dairy operators; the National Cattleman’s Beef Association is committed
to maintaining the highest standards for educating consumers and public policy by
communicating accurate information about beef’s nutritional qualities and the role
of beef in a healthful diet.
Diamond Ranch Foods recently
became an NCBA member, shortly after the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association
announced their support for transparency in nutrition labeling (see NCBA news: March
18, 2010), whereby the organization submitted comments in support of a proposed rule
by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Food Safety and Inspection Service
(FSIS) to require nutrition labeling of meat products.
As noted in the NCBA
announcement, the new rule would amend the federal meat and poultry products
inspection regulations to require nutrition labeling of major cuts of
single-ingredient, raw meat and poultry products. Further, FSIS specifically
requested comments on “lean percentage” labeling requirements. Noting such,
the National Cattleman’s Beef Association’s news release also provided the
following information for beef consumers and the public at large.
Calorie for calorie,
beef is one of the most naturally nutrient-rich foods there is. A three-ounce
serving of lean beef is considered an excellent source of: protein, zinc,
vitamin B, selenium and phosphorus; and a good source of niacin, vitamin B,
iron, choline and riboflavin. Twenty-nine cuts of beef meet government guidelines
for lean, with less than 10 grams of total fat, 4.5 grams or less of saturated
fat, and less than 95 milligrams of cholesterol per 3-ounce serving. Research
also suggests that high-quality protein plays an increasingly important role
in weight management, muscle development and maintenance, and
disease prevention.
